A tiny diorama made from Index Cards! A few years ago, I had a challenge to make a bucket list, and I found "be on a reality show" on the list. Now, I don't mean Cops or The Circle, I mean a CReatility show: a Creative Reality show! Like a cooking show, LEGO Masters, or Making It, an awesome show with hosts Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman that I watched season 3 of this summer. In my Creativity Matters group, September's theme is Embracing Possibility, and a quote included in the packet that I fell in love with is: It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting. --Paulo Coelho And one of the suggested methods to experiment with was diorama. Hmm, I haven't made a diorama in how long? But I would want something small, I kept looking for smaller and smaller boxes, when I remembered how much I love using Index Cards! Cheap, easy to get ahold of, and you probably have some laying around, are great qualities in art supplies! So I started with three cards, background, middle, and front. I started with no idea how I was going to make the cards into a diorama. But I'll figure that out later. My other ideas included gluing the cards together at the bottom, with something to hold space between. I may still try that at some point, because I keep arguing with myself that since what I ended up with is movable, it's more of a set design or paper puppets than actual diorama. But when the idea of using another index card as a base came to me, it was a real Eureka! moment. You know what I mean, when the perfect idea pops into your head? It's what makes life worth living! So I whipped up this little three row diorama-ish art, excited to finish once I had started. Pencil sketch, marker outline, colored pencil, then cut out with the fancy tiny scissors the front two rows, and glue. Easy Peasey. Should be easy to teach kids this method, too. Bonus! Thanks for taking a look, the photos have captions with more info, let me know what you think. Ideas Beget Ideas!
